Description

Natural Whitewood, 108 beads long mala, made with 6mm beads.  Strung on strong thread with 8mm Tiger Kamagong marker beads every 27th bead and as the head bead.  This is a long mala of 108 beads, excluding the head bead(s).  The tassel is made from 100% cotton thread.

Whitewood beads are made from a common type of wood in the Philippines locally called “ambabawod”. It has not been bleached and the shine is from a natural wax. The beads are handmade and often not perfectly round, as you will see from the picture.

Tiger Kamagong wood, also called Tiger Ebony, is from the Kamagong “Mabolo” fruit tree found only in the Philippines. Some beads are very dark, others come with rich, warm patterning.  The wood is dense and hard and belongs to the ebony family. It is an endangered tree species and protected by Philippine law – these beads comply with this law and are from a reputable supplier.

The beads are 6mm in size and the mala measures over the 108 beads approximately 66cm (26 inches). Laid flat and measured from top to toe, with the tassel and head beads, it is around 38cm (15 inches).
